Propagating Your Perennials

Speaker:  Joan Butler, The Enchanted Gardener Increase your perennial collection, replace mature plants, grow varieties that may not be offered for sale and even produce new hybrids.  We will learn different propagation skills including growing from seed, cuttings, and division of a wide range of perennials in this combination lecture and demonstration. Social from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. followed by a business meeting.  Speaker at 10:15 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

Town Clean Up

Hollis Town Common

Bring your garden gloves, rakes, clippers and tarps and prepare to probably get a bit dirty.  We meet at the Town Common and scatter around town, Beebe Garden, Lawrence Barn, Town Hall and Monument Square to clean up the landscape beds and flower beds and prepare for winter.

Gathering of the Greens

November 16 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Time to gather the greens, laurel, cuttings and other seasonal items to decorate the wreaths and swags that will be placed around town to help celebrate the holiday season.  Gloves, clippers and large trash bags are needed.  We'll walk through wooded areas to gather various items needed.  Wouldn't hurt to spray for ticks. Members will be sent more information.

Wreath Workshop

Bring your artistic creativity, holiday spirit and decorate wreaths and swags.   If you have greens, winterberry, holly, pinecones and other interesting greens, we will use them to enhance our seasonal decorations.  Members will proceed to place the wreaths and swags at various locations including the Town Hall, Police and Fire Stations, Hollis Social Library, Ever Ready Fire Station, Town Common, Lawrence Barn, Wheeler House and other locations throughout the town.

Lilacs, New Hampshire’s State Flower

Speaker:  Barbara Rollins, Member of the Governor's Lilac and Wildflower Commission The oldest lilacs in NH date back to 1750.  They are located at the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion in Portsmouth.  The purple lilac, Syringa Vulgaris, is our official state flower.  They can live for centuries and there are 1500 named varieties. Design with Vines
