June 4 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am
Speaker: Jane Jeffers
Jane is a self-proclaimed hydrangea enthusiast. A longtime admirer of the plant, she designed a landscape with hydrangea as the principal plant, only to be disappointed year after year with lack of blossoms (which we have all experienced). As a result of her frustration, in 2015 she attended a three-day conference on hydrangea at the Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich, MA. The presenters were leading experts in the field – primarily Dr. Michael Dirr, Professor of Horticulture at the University of Georgia, and Mal Condon, owner of the Hydrangea Farm on Nantucket. Other presenters represented hydrangea growers and members of the Cape Cod Hydrangea Society. Jane has over 40 hydrangeas (20 varieties) in her gardens and continues to experiment with new introductions as well as over-wintering hydrangeas and container planting. She will be sharing what she learned at the conference and information garnered from further conversations with Mal Condon as well as providing tips on what has worked for her and what hasn’t.
