Come hear the untold history of the White House grounds. Learn fascinating tidbits about Lincoln’s goats, Ike’s putting green, Jackie’s iconic roses, Amy Carter’s tree house and others. Find out which plants have come into and gone out of favor over the years.
Marta McDowell teaches landscape history and horticulture at The New York Botanical Garden, where she studied landscape design. Her garden is included in the Smithsonian’s Archive of American Gardens and in 2018 she will be gardener-in-residence at the Emily Dickinson Museum in Amherst. Her particular interest is in authors and their gardens, the connection between the pen and the trowel, and she has written a number of books on the subject. All The Presidents’ Gardens made the New York Times bestseller list in 2015 and won an American Horticultural Society book award. Her book will be for sale and she will be available to autograph.
